The Virgin Islands Department of Education's State Office of Special Education (SOSE) is pleased to announce the public presentation of the results from the Twelfth (12th) Annual Parental Satisfaction Survey. This event will take place on Monday, December 9, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and will be held virtually via Zoom for participants in both the St. Croix District and the St. Thomas-St. John District.

Acting State Director Kathleen Merchant invites parents, guardians, and community stakeholders to join the presentation, which will highlight findings from the survey conducted by the University of the Virgin Islands' Eastern Caribbean Center (ECC). The survey, completed telephonically, aimed to collect and report trend data for the 2022–2023 school year. The survey data is a vital tool in assessing and improving services designed to enhance academic and functional outcomes for children and youth with disabilities, ages three to 21, across the Territory. Parents and guardians of children receiving special education services, members of the Virgin Islands Advisory Panel on Special Education (VIAPSE), SOSE team members, district special education staff, and other interested individuals are encouraged to attend. LOCKHART K-8 SCHOOL RESUMES NORMAL OPERATIONS AFTER FRADUALENT BOMB THREAT

The Lockhart K-8 School has resumed operations after responding to a fraudulent bomb threat. The incident began with a call on November 18, 2024, shortly after 10:30 am, indicating a potential bomb threat to the school campus.

Immediately upon receiving this information, school officials promptly contacted 911 and initiated evacuation and security procedures. In accordance with safety protocols, students were safely escorted to the Roy Lester Schneider Hospital parking lot to ensure their well-being.

Subsequently, the Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) conducted a sweep of the campus to identify any potential threats. After their inspection and finding no evidence of any danger on the premises, the VIPD granted the "all clear" signal. The Lockhart K-8 School has now resumed operations, providing assurance that all students, faculty, and staff are secure.

The incident is under further investigation by the Virgin Islands Police Department to ascertain the specific details and circumstances surrounding the reported bomb threat. Students are reminded of the seriousness of making any kind of threats that could compromise the safety of fellow students and school personnel.

The Virgin Islands Department of Education expresses gratitude to the VIPD for their ongoing collaborative efforts in effectively addressing incidents on school campuses.
