The Virgin Islands Department of Education’s (VIDE) State Office of Special Education will launch its annual parental survey territory-wide on October 10 to collect confidential data on the level of parental satisfaction with the programs and related services provided by the Department’s divisions of special education. The survey is geared toward parents and guardians of residents ages 3-21 with a disability and will be conducted through telephonic interview by the University of the Virgin Islands’ Eastern Caribbean Center.
State Director of Special Education Renee Charleswell, Ph.D., pointed out that the survey will help the VIDE provide better services to its special education population.
“The results of the survey will be used to assist the district offices of Special Education with improving services provided to children with disabilities and their families, particularly the State Office of Special Education, as it continues its venture to improve overall academic and functional results for children and youth with disabilities throughout the territory,” she said. “We look forward to the full cooperation and participation of our parents.”
