The Virgin Islands Department of Education has received 1,000 of its expected shipment of 12,000 Chromebooks and is distributing the electronic items to students in both school districts.
Shipments began arriving in the Territory on October 1. Prior to distribution to students, the items are tagged and processed through the Department’s Procurement Division.
“We are extremely excited to receive our first shipments of Chromebooks and get them into the hands of students,” Education Commissioner Racquel Berry-Benjamin said. “We anticipate the arrival of many more shipments, which means many more students will receive a new laptop so they can participate in virtual learning.”
Each V.I. public-school student will receive a new Chromebook. The electronics were purchased with $20 million in CARES Act funding received from Congress.
