The Virgin Islands Department of Education (VIDE) announces that all public schools will remain closed on Thursday, August 15, 2024, following the impact of Tropical Storm Ernesto.
VIDE maintenance teams across both districts have begun campus assessments, focusing on exterior debris, including fallen trees and other hazardous items. Essential school staff, including principals, assistant principals, kitchen managers, custodians, school monitors, maintenance workers, and laborers, are required to report to their respective school sites on August 15th at 8:00 a.m.
Non-essential school faculty and staff should not report to school campuses on August 15th, as ongoing clean-up efforts will be conducted by essential personnel, maintenance teams, custodians, and partner agencies.
All district and state-level employees are required to report to their work locations for the resumption of normal operations on August 15th at 8:00 a.m.
The Virgin Islands Department of Education remains committed to the safety of our students, faculty, and staff. Efforts will be made to address necessary clean-up, repairs, and maintenance at school campuses following the impact of Tropical Storm Ernesto. After the initial clean-up, VIDE will conduct further assessments to ensure that campuses are ready to welcome students, faculty, and staff back. The resumption of school operations will be determined once all school environments, both interior and exterior, are deemed safe for students.
